Here are some of the ways to be involved with PFS:
Festival Volunteers
Each October, the Philadelphia Film Society hosts the Philadelphia Film Festival, which gathers more than 25,000 dedicated film lovers and scores of talented filmmakers for 11 exceptional days.
Without our amazing volunteers, none of this is possible! From checking badges and scanning tickets, to counting ballots and greeting guests, festival volunteers are a necessity. They are the key to our events running smoothly. Every year, PFF attracts hundreds of volunteers who leave our theaters and events with new friendships and fond memories that last for years to come. Whether you sign up because you’re a film buff or because you’re looking for a new way to help out in the community, volunteering for PFF is the perfect way to get involved, meet new people, and experience acclaimed cinema all at once—and we’d love to have you as a part of our team!
The Philadelphia Film Festival has a range of volunteer positions available, including Venue Operations (Ushers & Greeters), Membership, and Special Events. After each shift, volunteers receive a voucher that can be redeemed for a movie ticket during the film festival or throughout the year at a PFS First Run screening. PLUS, volunteers who work 6+ shifts get a FREE Gaffer Level Membership for the Festival experience all year long! Venue managers may also sign off on student volunteer logs for school requirements, when applicable.

At the PFS Roxy and Prince Theaters
For both first-run and curated screenings, volunteers will act as Membership Ambassadors. This will include letting patrons know about the benefits of a PFS Membership and possibly making a brief introduction to an audience focused on membership opportunities.
At Member Screenings
Several times a month, PFS Members are invited to attend sneak peek screenings of a variety of films prior to their theatrical release. For these events, volunteers will assist the PFS staff member in attendance with reserving seats for higher level members and ensuring that all PFS members in attendance are checked in quickly and efficiently.
At PFS Special Events
Throughout the year, PFS also hosts a variety of special screenings and events for film lovers, like our Annual Awards Night Party, monthly Philly Film Showcase of local shorts, and summer Movies on the Block community screenings. Tasks for volunteers may include working as Membership Ambassadors or helping set up and break down for the events.
Compensation
Volunteers will receive one (1) PFS voucher for every shift worked. Volunteers may sit in on a screening, pending availability of seating and the consent of the manager on duty; if it is a shift with multiple screenings, volunteers may only sit in on the final screening of that shift. They must wait until 15 minutes past the film’s start time to leave their post and enter the theater. Finally, for those volunteers who spend time working as a Membership Ambassador–anyone who sells 13 memberships within the span of one year (counted from Festival to Festival) will earn themselves a one-year Director Level membership!
