Jonathan D. Moreno leads a post-screening discussion of the historical context and critical response to Stanley Milgram’s study, as well as the function of role playing in these famous experiments.
In 1961, social psychologist Stanley Milgram embarked on one of the most famous, contentious series of experiments of the 20th century. Milgram tested ordinary humans’ willingness to inflict pain on others when ordered to do so by an authority figure, and his results were often chilling. In this searching, inventive biopic, writer and director Michael Almereyda provides fascinating insight into the obedience study, and explores the ways that Milgram’s controversial notoriety went on to affect his career and personal life.
